A Magistrates’ Court in Minna on Wednesday sentenced two Fulani herdsmen, Ali Yusuf and Buhari Saleh, to three months imprisonment each for stealing chickens and sheep.
The court presided over by Magistrate Mariam King, sentenced the convicts after they pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of joint act, theft and belonging to a gang of thieves.
Mariam, however, gave the convicts an option of N10,000 fines on each offence.
Prosecutor Daniel Ikwoche had told the court that they were arrested at Sauka Kahuta and found with four live chickens and two sheep suspected to be stolen.
Ikwoche said during investigation, it was discovered that they stole the animals from Abdullahi Abdulmumini and Mustapha Mohammed, respectively with intent to sell them.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 79, 288 and 306 of the Penal Code, which the convicts pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.
Ikwoche, thereafter, prayed the court to try the accused summarily in line with Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
